Qianxi Shang is an illustrator, printmaker, and book artists. After graduated from School of Visual Arts (SVA) in 2023, she is currently pursuing a Master degree in University of Edinburgh. As an artist with rich interdisciplinary backgrounds and global study experiences, she love to explore various art styles and philosophical themes.
Her artworks desire to penetrate into one’s inner world and reveal extreme emotions. Most of her themes are related to unconscious thoughts and psychological issues, supported by philosophy or literature theories. Instead of directly expressing the darker side and horrifying scenes, she usually expresses them in a subtle, light, and whimsical way. In a formal aspect, she frequently uses vibrant colors and unexpected combinations to give viewers strong visual experience. She is also fascinated with metaphysical art, through which she believes the melancholy and vacuum feeling is universal deep down inside everyone’s heart, and can only be expressed through the unexplainable visuals.
